The Chinese Government, in partnership with the technology giant, Lenovo, invited teams from around the world to compete for Lenovo's Asian campus headquarters located 15 kilometers from central Beijing. After purchasing the PC business from IBM, Lenovo became the largest technology provider in Asia. Several universal planning strategies that combined the human scale of the old city and workplace strategies of the new city were overlaid to house 10, 000 workers along with 10,000 cars. Work zones, or work blocks, represented 80% of the program and were partnered with assembly areas and amenities. Social and service oriented programming was located on the ground floors, and interlocked with gardens and other outdoor features. Each garden was unique to each building and was inspired by the traditional Chinese landscape and its surrounding neighborhoods.
