Chicago's City Transit Authority launched an initiative to refurbish and enhance the Red Line stations spanning the Dan Ryan highway, starting with the 35th Street station at Socks Park. The catalyst and priority for this particular stop was the Major League Baseball All-Star game hosted in Chicago. The project included restoration of the Myron Goldsmith station house and platform, extensive refurbishment of the bridge, and improvement of amenities for CTA bus and train users such as a transit canopy and shelter to protect passengers from inclement weather and noise from the highway The redesign has transformed a once gritty, dark, and harsh environment into a vibrant urban plaza and a welcoming zone for CTA passengers, while serving as a entry point to the city of Chicago.
